"This girl shivers and crawls under the covers with all her clothes on and falls into an overdue library book, a faerie story with rats and marrow and burning curses. The sentances build a fence around her, a Times Roman 10-point baracade, to keep the thorny voices in her head from getting too close."

oh! random rant and webcam photos.

so i have been quite bummed the whole day.
i start college on monday...after almost 3 months of being on holiday (well, working too) i feel as if it's come to an abrupt end.
and i wish i could be excited about starting college (i'm in third year now)
but
i'm sadly not.
the only things that are keeping me sane at the thought of going back is:
a) my best friend, Lisa.
and
b) my new bag for my college goodies.
and
c) there are some thrift stores close to where my college is situated...so during free periods (and if i haven't got work to do) you will be sure to find me at one of them.

now if you don't know already...i am studying to be a teacher.
for little kids:p
Grade R to Grade 3.
don't get me wrong i ADORE what i am studying.
but at times...the course can leave one feeling a tad unstimulated.
i get that we have to learn about kids stuff...but does it mean that one has to get excited EVERY TIME we are taught to make a paper fan or cup (i mean...honestly)
and (sorry! this is such a rant!) what annoys me the most at the college i go to is that our class is really small and it's ONLY girls.
so you can imagine the kitty claws coming out.
but really...i highly dislike the fact that some people in my class think they actually "KNOW" me JUST because we're in the same class.
it's like, "lets put Jade in a box without really knowing anything of substance about her"
i found this happens quite a lot.
especially if you don't have a "normal" style when it comes to clothes/hair.
and little do they know...that the reason i have such a loud mouth at times is because i'm actually REALLY shy when it comes to people i don't know that well (no really, it's taken 3 years for my boyfriend to REALLY know me...and he still says at times i'm TOO QUIET...imagine that) and i kind of use it as a "cover up"...which i need to stop.
i'm like one of those comedians that are actually shy when not on stage.
haha.
ANYWAYS...off the topic here:0
i just...want an invisibility cloak so i can go to class and get what needs to be done, done.
and then go home to my Patricia Cornwell novels, Dexter series, boyfriend cuddles and my kitty cat.
ho hum.

are any of you studying something?
if so, do you enjoy your class as much as i do?
hehe.
promise this is the only rant for the month...must say, made me feel much better ^^
;)

WELL.
to end this post...here are some silly photos Lourens and i took with the webcam:)

i love him so much.
my best friend.
my boyfriend.
my future husband.
my curly-haired bearded bunch of awesomeness.

oh! cute.

i think mustaches (on men only of course, unless as a girl you have a fake one, tehe) are SUPER cute (but beards still take the cake for me, dur! bf has one)
just look at all these awesome items! i want them all!
you can click here to see more mustache awesomeness:)

AND.
another thing i find randomly cute
don't ask me why, but i think teeth are cute.
just take a look at the below images and then you will think teeth are cute too:)
lately i have had really sensitive teeth and my one tooth in particular isn't a happy chappy...so i've been putting off going to the dentist...but next month i have to go (can't afford to have false teeth already!)
then maybe my teeth will be smiling again ^^

what do you find to be randomly cute?

Friday, yay!

silly knits.

hello lovelies!
i think it's been too long since i last posted something.
that is due to lack of internet and time lately.
i registered for my third year of college yesterday! only one more year left! then i can start my life as an adult:p
but till then...i found this ridiculous hideous knitted sweater in a thrift store today! i just couldn't resist buying it! it was a steal to be honest...cost R5. for those of you who are not familiar with the south african rand, lets just say that you can buy a small chocolate for the price i paid for it.
i can't wait till winter so i can curl up with a good book/dvd and a huge cuppa hot chocolate and THIS cozy sweater...

i also found these two clutch purses.

other than that.
i am in the midst of reading a really good murder mystery...THE BODY FARM...by another favorite author, patricia cornwell.

hope you are all well.

nose in a book

i love lazy days.
lazy days mean nothing important to do other than lounge around in your owl pj's with a great cuppa tea and your nose in a book.
well.
that's what it means for me.
so i decided that today...i will share with you my favorite author.
her name is marya hornbacher and she is one hell of a woman.

she was just 22 when she wrote Wasted: A Memoir Of Anorexia and Bulimia.
that was the first book i had read of hers...as i was struggling with an eating disorder myself.
she has a wicked, dry sense of humor and when she writes, she writes truth that is so real it can sometimes be daunting to actually read.
her book however was a saving grace to me at the time and helped me (not completely of course, a book does NOT cure you of an eating disorder) to face some of my monsters residing under my cozy bed.

her second book was not a memoir but a novel, The Center Of Winter which follows the story of a family struggling to cope with the aftermath of a tragic death in the family.

her third book, which i just completed last week, is called Madness: A Bipolar Life. This was written after marya was diagnosed with the mental disease, bipolar. this book kind of reaches home for me as my grandmother was diagnosed with a type of bipolar when she was really young (though with medication and a healthy lifestyle, one can live fairly normally)

the reason i like marya is because she has been through a lot and she has a lot to say and share with other people who may not understand such things as eating disorders and mental illnesses. she writes with a fiery passion and she doesn't leave anything for the imagination. she is graphic, raw and totally fantastic. i challenge anybody who wants to gain knowledge on real life situations to read marya's books.
what marya has to say is serious but her books are far from boring, and at times even entertaining.
but be warned, as i said she is graphic when telling her stories.
there are swear words, sex scenes and the way she explains her illnesses are so real it's as if a movie is playing inside your head when you read it.

*footnote
"You wake up one morning and there it is, sitting in an old plaid bathrobe in your kitchen, unpleasant and unshaved. You look at it, heart sinking. Madness is a rotten guest."

songs for a sunday.

it's sunday.
it's a beautiful evening.
and the perfect time to be relaxing with some lovely music.
here is what i am listening to (on repeat) today.

owl always love owls.

the above owl is puzzles. he lives at a bird sanctuary called, "the world of birds"
and he is blind in his one eye and he has only one wing.
i was privileged to meet him.

the photos of the owls are from our 3 year anniversary.
owls are my absolute favorite animals.
they are wise, wonderful and whimsical.
and aren't these two little barn owls (above) absolutely delightful?
they make my heart glad.
hehe.

"The wise old owl
Sat in an oak.
The more he saw,
The less he spoke.
...The less he spoke,
The more he heard.
Why can't we be like
That wise old bird?"

sea inspired tattoos.

i love interesting and original tattoos.
my boyfriend painted (he's a graphic designer doing his masters at the moment)
the most amazing little jellyfish for me a few months ago.
and now i am really considering finding him a home...on my right thigh.

ahoy there.

LOVELIES.
welcome.
to my blog.
OH!
watermelon whale.
if you weren't following my previous (fail!) blog, let me introduce myself.
i'm Jade.
i live in Africa.
(okay, SOUTH Africa)
i'm a 20 something year old crazy in love nerd.
i have a slight owl obsession that is bordering onto a full blown addiction.
i also like earl gray tea, whale sharks, nose in a book, thrifting, laughing and saying things like "thaaar she blows" in inappropriate situations.
i think bearded, curly-haired boys are cute (okay i lie, ONE boy...being mine)
tattoos are swell.
and sunflowers must be the most awesome flower.
ever.
oceanic animals are also pretty awesome.

i really would like to get to know you.
so if you happen to fall upon this little blog, tell me a bit about YOURSELF.
